LevelUp draws on apps, QR codes for mobile payments

LevelUp's new mobile-payment service dispenses with the need for NFC technology and instead uses applications and a reader on a merchant's phone to complete a transaction. LevelUp, a spinoff from Scvngr, takes a 2% cut from each transaction, according to this post.
