Why IT can't solve the data privacy dilemma alone

Having a strategy in place for securing customer data assets is essential for small-business survival, but expecting IT alone to get the job done is shortsighted, experts say. According to Craig Spiezle of the Online Trust Alliance, companies looking to improve data privacy do need to rely on IT resources such as encryption, but they must also look beyond the technical processes of data security to explore how and where information is being used within the organization and ensure interdepartmental coordination.
