Exec: Animal Planet knew "Puppy Bowl" would have "legs"

Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl" over the past 10 years has become the network's biggest annual event. This year's version will offer several new features, including a Fantasy Puppy League, a half-time production with the popular Keyboard Cat from YouTube, and an online poll for the Bowl's MVP and penguin cheerleaders. "Puppy Bowl was a sleepy phenomenon that people were excited about, but we knew we had the germ of an idea," said Rick Holzman, executive vice president of programming and strategy for Animal Planet and Science. "Every year since then the project has taken on additional legs -- forgive the pun."
