Study: Gene may be linked to early menopause, infertility

A team of scientists found that mice lacking the tumor-suppressing gene PTEN were unable to keep the immature eggs in their ovaries from ripening prematurely. The finding could provide clues on the causes of early menopause and infertility in women and lead to the development of new treatments, the scientists said.
