Calif. city councilman considers proposing ban on polystyrene products

Councilman David Canepa of Daly City, Calif., may seek a ban on polystyrene products. "Styrofoam is harsh on wildlife, it's hard to decompose, and it can have adverse effects on birds and different species if we don't clean it up," Canepa said. In California, the cities of South San Francisco, Millbrae, Pacifica, San Francisco and Oakland have bans on polystyrene products, while a proposed ordinance in the state Assembly was withdrawn over concerns it would adversely affect businesses.
