Industry seeks adequate food-safety funding

The federal government should ensure that food-safety programs are adequately funded instead of proposing taxes or user fees on manufacturers and consumers, according to a coalition of trade organizations. "[T]he creation of new food taxes or regulatory fees would mean higher costs for food makers and lead to higher food prices for consumers," the trade groups wrote in a letter to White House Budget Director Jeffrey Zients and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
