Ravitch: Obama contradicts himself on testing

Education historian Diane Ravitch writes in this blog post that President Barack Obama's Race to the Top program promotes using standardized test scores to evaluate teachers, yet, in his recent State of the Union address, Obama said he wants teachers to "stop teaching to the test." "Why does President Obama think that teachers can 'stop teaching to the test' when their livelihood, their reputation, and the survival of their school depends on the outcome of those all-important standardized tests," Ravitch asks.
