Apple's iPhone dominated holiday smartphone buying, and Samsung Electronics scored as the lone bright spot among Android-backed cellphone-makers. "For the Android smartphone vendors to come out with something, they need to be very brave. It was Apple's Christmas," said IDC analyst Ramon Llamas. In the fourth quarter, AT&T activated 7.6 million iPhones, while Verizon Wireless reported that 56% of its 7.7 million activations came from iPhone customers.
