Pace of consumer spending growth slowed in December

Consumer spending rose 0.2% in December, slower than the 0.4% rise the month before, according to the Commerce Department. The report, released Thursday, also revealed that personal income increases hit an eight-year high, driven largely by dividend payments that companies made ahead of income tax increases that took effect Jan. 1.
