Businesses seek competitive boost from SaaS, survey finds

Enterprises are increasingly turning to cloud-based software tools hosted by third-party providers rather than buying their own systems. Many analysts have attributed the popularity of software-as-a-service to its ability to cut costs, but research suggests there is more at stake than the bottom line. A survey of 800 companies by IBM's Center for Applied Insights found that most companies surveyed were driven to SaaS adoption for the competitive benefits it offers.
