Businesses seek competitive boost from SaaS, survey says

Enterprises are increasingly turning to cloud-based software tools hosted by third-party providers rather than buying their own solutions. Many analysts have attributed the popularity of software-as-a-service to its ability to cut costs, but new research suggests there is more at stake than the bottom line. A survey of 800 companies by IBM's Center for Applied Insights found that more companies are driven to SaaS adoption for the competitive benefits it offers. "Whether they are using it to enter new markets, transform or create entirely new business models, or improve relationships with their customers and suppliers, pacesetting organizations are embracing SaaS in a meaningful way," said IBM's Craig Hayman.
