Companies are scrutinized over treatment of ex-convict job applicants

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is seeking to discourage companies from automatically disqualifying job applicants who have criminal records, and a BMW plant and Dollar General are facing lawsuits over their background-check policies. "We're caught in the middle," said Richard Mellor of the National Retail Federation. "When you say, 'Give someone a chance,' you're making a decision to increase risk."
