Designer wants to replace lawns with meadows

A nursery owner, author and garden designer in Orange County, Calif., wants to start a trend in which homeowners replace their lawns with meadows that feature exotic grasses and flowers. The designer helped develop a 900-square-foot meadow garden at the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, Calif. It features eight kinds of grasses.
