EA's purchase of social-gaming site Playfish is explained

Electronic Arts purchased the social-gaming site Playfish for $300 million in November, surprising many watchers of both companies. Playfish's president, Kristian Segerstrale, explains that the move was based on the anticipated maturation and consolidation of the social-gaming market. Segerstrale said the move will allow Playfish to expand its games across Facebook and smartphone applications, creating a "genuine opportunity to accelerate our pace of growth and build a billion-dollar business faster."
