Health groups increasingly are hiring chief nursing information officers, especially as the industry shifts to accountable care organizations, according to expert Linda Hodges. The role is crucial in making sure health IT systems will work for everyone, she said. "Nurses can see the need for an executive nurse focused on nursing needs and nursing practice, so that when health IT solutions are crafted for an organization, they will work for the nurses," Hodges said.
