Opinion: Biobutanol, other fuels can help U.S. hit RFS targets

Ramping up production of biobutanol, algae-based biofuels, solar fuels, biodiesel and renewable diesel would be a "low-cost, low-risk" way for the U.S. to achieve its goal of 36 billion gallons of biofuels by 2022, writes Jim Lane. Existing facilities can help the U.S. close the gap on its 2022 biofuel targets without having to build the 400 new biorefineries that the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates are needed, Lane writes.
