Spirit responds to new DOT rules with $4 fee

Spirit Airlines has introduced a $4 "unintended consequences of DOT regulations" fee on airfares in response to new rules rolled out by the Transportation Department. One of the new regulations gives passengers 24 hours to pay for reservations, which Spirit says limits seat inventory and forces them to spread costs, hence the fee.
