FTC chairman to step down in mid-Feburary

U.S. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz has announced that he will step down by Feb. 15, bringing to an end his eight-year tenure. The highly active FTC chief's departure sets the stage for partisan deadlock at the Commission, at least until President Barack Obama can get a nominee confirmed by the Senate. With Leibowitz gone, the five-member FTC will be reduced to two Democrats and two Republicans, potentially limiting its ability to act.
