Report highlights value of XBRL; calls on Congress, SEC to act

A report released by the Columbia Business School's Center for Excellence in Accounting and Security Analysis illustrates the value a structured data format for financial statements can have for investors, regulators and the capital markets in general. The report also notes that the potential of the Securities and Exchange Commission's eXtensible Business Reporting Language requirement has been largely unrealized to date and offers advice on what the SEC and Congress can do to nudge the XBRL process along.
