Opportunity data indicates lake bed presence

Even before NASA's Mars rover Opportunity rolled off its platform Saturday, scientists were already receiving data about the planet's surface. Opportunity's thermal emission spectrometer indicated the surrounding soil contains elements that could mean it was once a lake bed.
