A growing trend of doctors known as "hospitalists," who only see inpatients in hospitals, is proving to be especially popular in the Boston area, according to a new study. With primary care physicians increasingly under revenue and time pressure, hospitalists can offer inpatient care, including protecting patients from infections or intensive care help, that the primary care doctor otherwise would have provided.
