Teacher: Georgia governor should reconsider stance on NBCT funding

National Board Certified Teacher Sherrie Crow says that Georgia, where the 2009 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Conference will be held in July, no longer values the certification after a proposal by Gov. Sonny Perdue to cut the salary supplement for teachers who earn it. Crow says Perdue's proposal to shift NBCT money to salary supplements for teachers in his "Georgia Master Teacher" program is insulting to NBCTs, who already are master teachers and hold a certification that only a select number of teachers nationwide have earned.
