Luxury hotel-condo units come with unusual limitations

Pricey new luxury condo developments in California and New York -- Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Trump SoHo in Manhattan -- each come with a tricky caveat: Owners can only use their units for a limited number of days a year, and, in both cases, for no more than 29 consecutive days. When the condos aren't being used, they are available to be rented out, but in most condo-hotel developments, owners are permitted to use their units freely.
