Commentary: Excess sugar should be regulated

Sugar is addictive, and Americans consume so much that the government needs to regulate it, Dr. Robert Lustig of the University of California, San Francisco, wrote in a commentary in the journal Nature. The Sugar Association responded that studies show sugar is not a causative factor in disease, but nutrition expert Marion Nestle says it can be difficult to balance calories when eating a lot of sugar, and for some people it makes up half of their daily calories.
