The Better Care, Lower Cost Act, introduced by Sens. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., would promote the use of traditional and high-tech tools and foster the establishment of multidisciplinary teams to bolster treatment of chronic disease patients. Reps. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., and Peter Welch, D-Vt., have introduced an identical House bill. The measure would encourage medical schools to emphasize team-based care, technology and chronic care management.
