Pakistan struggles to increase school enrolment

UNESCO's latest report on the state of global primary education shows that Pakistan has the second-highest number of children out of school -- 5.5 million -- placing it behind only Nigeria in an international comparison. While the report also highlights a number of deficiencies in Pakistan's education system, there are some bright spots, including the success of early-grade reading programmes and after-school reading camps run by volunteers.
