Schools in England take steps to serve growing ESL population

A majority of students at more than 1 in 9 schools in England do not speak English as their primary language, according to government data. Figures show the number of schools where a minority of students speak English as their first language has increased by 10% since 2009. As a result, schools have hired interpreters to help communicate with parents as well as bilingual teaching assistants for some classes.
