FDA: Suicide risk higher among children using antidepressants

In an assessment greatly at odds with the psychiatric profession, the FDA said for the first time Monday that clinical trials of Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft show more suicide risk to children taking those drugs than those taking dummy pills. Families pleaded for more urgent FDA action before an expert advisory panel hearing, but the agency has asked for a second analysis of the data by summer before it will decide on any regulatory action.
