FDA approves Medtronic drug-coated stent

The FDA has granted Medtronic approval to market its Endeavor drug-coated stent in the U.S. The device is expected to compete with stents from Boston Scientific Corp. and Johnson & Johnson in the $2 billion market, which declined last year due to safety concerns. The company has increased its sales staff and began distributing the product Friday.
