New fraud standards make internal trademark audits vital

The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has tightened its fraud standards regarding federal trademark registrations obtained or maintained based on misstatements, writes Jeffrey Katz, a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Davis & Gilbert. He recommends that trademark owners conduct periodic audits of their own marks to help guard against costly infringements.
