Study: MR spectroscopy could help patients with brain tumors

U.S. researchers have developed a clinical decision model that uses MR spectroscopy to help physicians distinguish between recurrent tumors and post-radiation changes in brain tissue. In a study involving 33 brain tumor patients who underwent radiation treatment and MRI tests, 20 had recurrent tumors and 13 had post-radiation change. "With further work, this technique could save some patients from unnecessary brain biopsies," the lead researcher said.
