Bernanke vows transparency, to defend Fed's independence

After Ben Bernanke was sworn in for his second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve, he pledged to work harder to make the central bank's decisions understood and defend its independence. "In the interest of maintaining public confidence and promoting economic and financial stability, we must continue to protect our independence," Bernanke said. He also said he will ramp up oversight of the banking sector.
