Snow is more help than harm to January retail sales

Retailers reported unexpectedly solid January sales results, as purchases of cold-weather apparel and gear drove traffic even as record snows kept consumers at home in some parts of the country. Chains including Gap, Aeropostale, Costco and Victoria's Secret reported same-store sales growth that beat analyst expectations.
