CDC report shows procedure breakdown, with CV services dominating

Cardiovascular procedures accounted for 1 in 7 procedures performed at short-stay hospitals in 2010, according to CDC data. Arteriography and angiocardiography procedures with contrast material topped the list of the most common services, accounting for 2.4 million of 51.4 million total procedures, while diagnostic ultrasound accounted for 1.1 million procedures. There were also 500,000 balloon angioplasties of a coronary artery or coronary atherectomies, 454,000 placements of heart stents and 395,000 bypass surgeries.
