Survey: British consumers are tightening their belts

Some 58% of UK consumers are cutting back on new apparel purchases, 57% are ordering takeaway meals less often and 55% are swapping items for cheaper brands in the grocery store, according to a new Nielsen survey. The belt-tightening comes after the fourth quarter of 2013 brought the first drop in consumer confidence since 2011.
