Team develops metal-free flow battery for grid storage

Researchers at Harvard University have come up with a battery/fuel cell combination that could be used to store electricity produced by renewable energy sources. Funded by the Department of Energy, the research team was able to develop a flow battery with quinone-bromide chemistry that doesn't require the use of any metals.
