Foods high on the "glycemix index" may heighten cancer risk

Some high-carb foods, such as cakes and cookies, stimulate a fast release of insulin to help process the sugars into usable energy. However, insulin promotes cell division and facilitates longer cell life, leading to possible colorectal cancer among women, according to a study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Carbs found in brown rice and wheat breads do not get absorbed as fast as other carbs, though.
