Indiana defers toughening up basic diploma

Indiana education officials have decided to delay implementing stricter graduation requirements for the basic diploma until the 2006-07 school year to allow schools more time to prepare. Besides adding more required math and science classes to the basic diploma, the state board will soon consider an even tougher diploma option that would begin with the Class of 2011.
