Arizona schools court kindergartners

As Phoenix-area parents face more choices than ever about where to send their kindergartner-age youngsters, some districts are spending thousands of dollars on marketing and recruitment campaigns to try and capture students at the start of their educational careers. "Arizona really is one of the most, if not the most, competitive states when it comes to education," said Tempe Elementary School District spokesman Gary Aungst. "There's one side of the argument that says that will make us stronger. The other side of the argument says, 'Is that what education is really all about?'"
