On 10th anniversary, Oneworld alliance looks to the future

As the Oneworld alliance marks its 10th anniversary, its chairman says the international partnership is more important than ever. Though it is the smallest of the three global alliances, chairman Gerard Arpey, CEO of American Airlines, said Oneworld posted the "best collective profitability of any alliance," with members earning $11.3 billion over the past decade. Arpey said Oneworld will remain small, with new members being sought only in Brazil, Russia, India and China. To increase visibility, partner airlines have agreed to paint a portion of their fleets in Oneworld livery -- about 40 aircraft in all.
