Speakers at the Towards the Electronic Patient Record conference emphasized the importance of using federal funding to improve the relationship between provider and patient. Although many physicians have implemented EHRs, many are unaware of how to manage their data or how to partner with the patient. "There's been no precedent in history for sharing all of this information," American Medical Association Board Chairman Dr. Joseph Heyman said. "But now it's in the patient's best interest and we can't afford not to any more."
