Employees at Hawker Beechcraft Corp. are on edge following Tuesday's announcement by CEO Jim Schuster that 2,300 jobs will be cut due to the weak economy. "This is an extremely painful step for the HBC family and community, but one that is absolutely necessary," Schuster said in a letter explaining the cuts. Most of the affected workers will receive their notices on Friday, he said. In addition to general economic conditions, Schuster said the company was hurt by politicians and media reports casting general aviation as "a wasteful extravagance instead of a critical business tool and the source of millions of American jobs."
