Hurricane losses add to Texas budget woes

Losses sustained from Hurricanes Dolly, Gustav and Ike, which cost $1.7 billion last year, are adding to the headaches faced by Texas legislators trying to balance a snarled budget. Budget cuts for 2010-2011 and tapping Texas' rainy day savings may be on the horizon if lawmakers cannot secure federal funding to defray part of the storms' costs.
