BART extension project in line for federal funds

The Federal Transit Administration could contribute up to $900 million to Bay Area Rapid Transit's San Jose, Calif., extension after adding the BART project to its "new starts" program. Although it's uncertain in which year the funds will be awarded, the federal dollars would be the final slice of a complicated funding pie that also includes $760 million in state money to extend the line to San Jose.
