China opposes sanctions for Iran

Signaling a challenge to efforts by the U.S. and France to impose new sanctions against Iran through the UN Security Council, China said the sanctions would interrupt diplomatic efforts to resolve an international dispute about the development of Iran's nuclear program. Chinese officials said Iran has not dismissed a proposal that would see the International Atomic Energy Agency administer the processing of Iran's low-enriched uranium. Officials from France and the U.S. said they will support efforts to impose severe new sanctions against Iran.
