ECB's Trichet defends euro, "solidity" of eurozone

Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central Bank, defended the region's common currency as concern mounts about the ability of some European nations to get their public finances under control. Fear is spreading through the financial market about Greece, Portugal and Spain as the cost of insuring their sovereign debt against default increases. The situation has put downward pressure on the euro.
