French court: No Paris runway sweep on day of Concorde crash

Inspectors at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport had failed to sweep the runways for 12 hours prior to the July 25, 2000, crash of an Air France Concorde, a French court heard Wednesday. A fire drill had prevented the afternoon sweep of Runway 26, according to documents. Prosecutors allege that a small metal strip dislodged from an airliner that had just taken off was struck by the Concorde, leading to an engine fire and fatal crash.
