Report shows data on ICU central-line infections

Of the 926 hospitals in 43 states that participated in the 2009 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, 105 said in their most recent public report that they did not have a case of central-line infection in their intensive-care units, according to data from Consumer Reports and the Leapfrog Group. Some hospitals, however, doubled the national average for said infections. Fifteen percent of hospital infections and at least 30% of the yearly hospital infection-related deaths are caused by central-line infections, the report said.
