Toyota's biggest mistake wasn't letting customers drive defective vehicles -- it was failing to adequately manage the fallout, says Gene Grabowski, an expert in corporate crisis management. "This has been the worst-handled auto recall in history," he says. "Consumers can accept that you aren't perfect. What they will not accept is that you're not being transparent."
