Family physicians lead the way in EHR adoption, study shows

A study in the Annals of Family Medicine found family physicians have a higher rate of electronic health record adoption than other office-based physicians, with data showing a 68% implementation rate among family physicians in 2011. Jason Mitchell, M.D., director of the AAFP's Center for Health IT, said family physicians were early adopters of EHRs because they "embraced the idea that electronic health records were essential to providing safe, high-quality and efficient care."
